Doorway’s Season of Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend, everyone! We wanted to take the time this year to reflect on the things we are most grateful for. First and foremost, we are SO grateful for our members. These guys are the very heart of our group, and without them, all we would be left with is the silence of unsung songs…

Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to spreading joy through music! Here are some reflections from our members on last year’s holiday season:

“Christmas with Doorway was everything I’d hoped it’d be. Every song and gig had its own challenges to overcome, and every step of the way was fun and fulfilling. Learning cool renditions of my favorite songs, rediscovering childhood favorites, and even adding a couple new favorites to the list was such as dream!”

– Krysten Ferrer

“One of the best things about this first season for me was getting to know everyone while out on a gig. If we had a day where we had 3 gigs with the same group of people, we got to spend so much time together. It was nice to be able to connect with people with so much experience and such amazing talent.”

– Madi Wuornos

“Christmas looks different for those who have lost loved ones, lost their job, or have no one to celebrate with. Seeing up close and personal how music was able to bring joy, even if temporarily, to their hearts and faces was my greatest gift this Christmas. I’ll forever cherish these memories.”

– Dai Poole

“The Christmas season really made me feel part of the Doorway family very quickly. Everyone was so helpful to me as a new member, and I had such fun performing at local places I’ve never been to. I can’t wait to see what future seasons entail!”

– Evan Norris

Second, we are incredibly grateful for the efforts of our section leaders! Last year, we implemented the section leader positions for the first time. One member from each vocal part is appointed by the Music Director, Sarah Schweit. They work closely with her to assist with leading rehearsals, recording vocal tracks for practice, and ensuring that all members go into our gig season feeling confident in their knowledge and performance of our music.

Here are some reflections by this year’s Tenor and Bass section leaders:

“I really enjoyed being able to bring joy to a large audience this Christmas season, especially for people in retirement homes. Some of those people were more excited to hear us sing than anyone else, and it really made me feel like I was spreading Christmas cheer.”

– Joseph Brown, Tenor Section Leader

“Doorway Christmas season is my absolute favorite time of year! It gives me the opportunity to attend and enjoy countless holiday celebrations, and I get to sing while I’m at it! The work that we put in this past rehearsal season really paid off, and we made some wonderful music together. This being my first season as bass section leader, I enjoyed the chance to help create magic in rehearsals. Next Christmas season will be here before I know it, and I cannot wait!”

– Andrew Dulce, Bass Section Leader

Last, but not least, we are immensely grateful to our audiences and the communities who continually welcome us with open arms…in short, we are most grateful to you! Our constant listeners continue to give us the privilege of celebrating the holidays through the power and tradition of music. We wish each and every one of you a safe and fun Thanksgiving weekend, and we look forward to singing with you again this holiday season!
